Pruno is a type of wine secretively made in prison by the inmates.  The recipe can be made from almost anything that has sugar in it such as: fruit juice, apples, oranges, sugar, and in some instances ketchup.  The alcohol can be made using any type of fermentation vessel such as a plastic bag, ziploc bag, milk carton or even the toilet bowl!  The flavor of these drinks as you can imagine isn’t the best quality, the main reason is to make any potent kind of booze.  Alcohol is not permitted in prisons so when an inmate is making pruno they have to be very descreet otherwise it will be confiscated.  Some wardens have even gone as far as to ban fresh fruit from their prison to help discourage the production of pruno.

So next time you “booze hounds” get sent to prison, heres a recipe for you to keep your whits about you.

Jailhouse Pruno

2 Cups Sugar

1 Qt. Fruit Juice (Any kind will do)

1 pinch of bakers yeast and/or a couple of raisins or grapes

Dissolve sugar in a carton of juice and add yeast/raisins.  Slip a latex glove over the carton and ferment until the glove deflates.  Then invite your cellmates to a first class wine tasting.
